Train services from Badlapur railway station near Mumbai on Central Railway lines resumed late Tuesday evening after a 10-hour disruption due to massive protests against the alleged sexual assault of two four-year-old girls by the school sweeper in the washroom ¹. The Maharashtra Police used force to disperse protesters around 6 pm, who had gathered at the railway station since morning, after they hurled stones while rejecting pleas to call off the agitation ¹. The Opposition has slammed the Maharashtra government over the force used on protesters ¹.

** Sexual Abuse Case**
The case involves the sexual abuse of two kindergarten students, aged three and four, by a male school attendant ². The incident occurred recently in the school's toilet, where the accused allegedly assaulted the girls ². The accused, 23-year-old Akshay Shinde, was employed as a cleaning staff member on a contractual basis from August 1, 2024 ².

*Government Action*
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed the police to charge the accused with an attempt to rape ². The CM also announced the appointment of a special public prosecutor to fast-track the case ². The Maharashtra government has also ordered the suspension of three police officials, including a senior police inspector, for alleged dereliction of duty in probing the case ².
